Here come Sparrow 1.6.2

Sparrow is now Retina and Moutain Lion ready with Notification Center Support.

This release also fix a few bugs and adds 2 small feature requests:

• Always show info header
• Always expand all messages

We’re back on the Mac!

Sparrow for Mac 1.6 comes with one major feature: POP support, and a lot of improvements that will make your mail life even easier.

POP

You can now finally plug your Hotmail account in Sparrow or any other POP 

‘True’ Unified Inbox 

Navigate in your unified Favorites, Sent, Drafts from your Unified account.

Empty Spam

As simple as it is, one click to flush them all.

Composer sender toggle

Quickly toggle down from ‘To’, ‘Subject’ to ‘From’. 

And a lot more additions to this new version:

• Esc on Quick Reply saves as draft

The lonesome death of attachments

Sparrow 1.4 is a special release for us. We took the time to improve our little bird both in terms of UI and performance. You should notice right away that Sparrow is now faster than ever.

It’s also been a while we wanted to integrate CloudApp. We use it daily at Sparrow and we thought it would make a lot of sense to get it into Sparrow.

All you have to do is activate the option in Sparrow Preferences and attachments should never be a problem again.

Of course, that’s not all. We also added:

• A reversed thread ordering like in Gmail (older messages on top)

• Pull-to-refresh

and we have made some improvement on the UI:

• Default image in conversation view when no message or multiple message are selected
• Window resize issue
• Default compose window size
• Message list default size is kept when modifying the sidebar state
• Sidebar animations when showing / hiding
• Default minimal size of windows

Important changes were also made under the hood, with a brand new draft management system which makes Sparrow:

• Send mail faster
• Behave better with bad network/ offline behavior

Open the Mac App Store to update your Sparrow and make the most of this new features or simply check for update.

Sparrow 1.1.2 is still in review at Apple.

We submitted the update on April the 4th. Since, Sparrow 1.1.2 has been rejected twice. On the 15th of April, we requested an appeal on iTunes Connect and are now waiting for Apple’s answer.

The application was rejected because Apple reviewers couldn’t add the test accounts we provided. After testing on our side, we were not able to reproduce the issue and came to the conclusion that Sparrow was being tested offline or behind a firewall (which could explain why Sparrow was unable to connect to any mail account).

We kindly asked several times for log protocol to pinpoint the exact reason and make a consistent answer to the review team but had no luck. We had no other choice than to ask for an Appeal.  

Sparrow 1.1.2 fixes the following issues:

• Duplication in Sent mailbox on Exchange servers
• Selection in folder mapping 
• Crash on sync
• Keychain conflict 
• “New message” option has been added to right-click on Dock icon 

We’ve been working hard on Sparrow 1.2 for some weeks now. Most of what we’re doing has to be kept secret but the Universal Inbox will be there along with lots of improvements and cool new features.

Sparrow 1.1: this is just the beginning

Today, we are proud to announce the new features that have made their way into Sparrow 1.1.

We are in the last weeks of beta testing and we should submit Sparrow 1.1 to the Mac App Store in a few days .

So what’s new?

General IMAP

Sparrow 1.1 supports general IMAP. In other words, you will be able to add any Mobile Me, Yahoo or AOL account in Sparrow.

Custom IMAP providers such as Rackspace, Fastmail, Zimbra, Dreamhost, GMX… are also supported.

Priority Inbox & Unread

Sparrow is meant to help you keep a clean and tidy inbox.

Per alias signature 

Sparrow 1.1 allows you to create a custom signature for every account and every alias linked to this account. 

Formatting bar

Numbered or bulleted list? Choose your font, font size, text color, quote level directly from the compose window. Sparrow 1.1 provides you with all the options you need directly within the compose window.

Minimal mode

For busy users who have a lot of incoming mails and like to see it all in a glimpse, we added a minimal mode. You can now hide message preview in the message list and see more messages at once.

Multitouch gestures

Pinch to open/close a message, three-finger swipe to open and close the panel, three-finger swipe to navigate the message list or switch accounts. Sparrow now integrates a full array of multitouch gestures making it easier to navigate your mail and mail accounts.

Contact groups

Contact groups are now supported in Sparrow 1.1.

Bug fix

Some of you were experiencing a bug related to archiving mails in Sparrow 1.0.1. This has been fixed.

Every single request that we have received has been taken into account and we have fixed numerous behaviors that you kindly reported to us. You can see the complete list of solved bugs here. 

From Sparrow behavior at start up to the contrast of the selected cell color, we’ve improved Sparrow on every level.

Of course, upgrading to Sparrow 1.1 from a previous version will be free.

Sparrow 1.1 will be posted to the Mac App Store in a few days and should be available before the end of March depending on how long Apple’s validation is going to be. We will keep you updated here as soon as the application is submitted.

Sparrow 1.1 is only the beginning. We’re just getting started.
