Google pushing hard to get Gmail looking like Sparrow.
Working on Sparrow 1.4.1
Dear Sparrowers,
We’re currently working on Sparrow 1.4.1 focusing on the issues you reported:
- Growl support
- iCloud Support
- Mail ordering
- Quick reply all
- Encoding issue
- Quick Look in full screen mode
- Various crashes
The recently released version of Growl does not work with Sparrow 1.4 but it will in Sparrow 1.4.1.
iCloud will also be supported in Sparrow 1.4.1 but know that you can still connect your account by following those steps in the current version.
Some of you have been experiencing connection issue related to Gmail’s 2-step authentication, make sure you have generated the specific password required for third party apps like Sparrow.
Sparrow 1.4.1 will be posted to the Mac AppStore in a few days.
Sparrow 1.4 is coming to your desktop tomorrow. Here is a taste of it.
Sparrow 1.3.2 is now available on the Mac App Store
This new release includes:
- Drag and drop directly in your label & folders in the extended sidebar

- Shortmail support: character counter in compose window. We really like the idea of Shortmail and felt we had to integrate it in Sparrow.

- Focus on Compose window in full screen mode
- New conversation view design: buttons are gone and the whole view is more minimalist. The quick reply has been slightly redesigned too.

- Top bar gradient re-design
- New default avatars for incoming mails
Bug fix:
- Transparent text issue in message composer
- Window and sidebar size memory issue
- Alt-L Polish character issue
- Fixed Esc key behavior in fullscreen
- Deminimized animation fixed
- Shift-Cmd-2 in Extended sidebar Unified Inbox
- Copy and paste issue in compose window
- Inline attachments resize issue
- Improved memory usage
- Fixed various crashes
Warning on Google Mail new settings
On June the 1st 2011, Google made some deep changes in your default Gmail account settings. While using your Gmail account, if you’re encountering this error message:

That’s because the change have been applied to your account.
What you need to do to get Sparrow to work again with your Gmail account is the following:
- Go to your Gmail web application
- Go to Mail Settings by clicking the upper-right corner wheel:
- Go to the ‘Labels’ section of your Settings. Make sure to tick the ‘Show in IMAP’ corresponding to the ‘Draft’, ‘Trash’, ‘Starred’ and ‘Important’ Labels as described below:
- Wait 2 to 3 minutes and restart Sparrow. Your Gmail account should work fine again.

Sparrow 1.1.2 is now available on the Mac AppStore
Sparrow 1.1.2 is still in review at Apple.
We submitted the update on April the 4th. Since, Sparrow 1.1.2 has been rejected twice. On the 15th of April, we requested an appeal on iTunes Connect and are now waiting for Apple’s answer.
The application was rejected because Apple reviewers couldn’t add the test accounts we provided. After testing on our side, we were not able to reproduce the issue and came to the conclusion that Sparrow was being tested offline or behind a firewall (which could explain why Sparrow was unable to connect to any mail account).
We kindly asked several times for log protocol to pinpoint the exact reason and make a consistent answer to the review team but had no luck. We had no other choice than to ask for an Appeal.
Sparrow 1.1.2 fixes the following issues:
- Duplication in Sent mailbox on Exchange servers
- Selection in folder mapping
- Crash on sync
- Keychain conflict
- “New message” option has been added to right-click on Dock icon
We’ve been working hard on Sparrow 1.2 for some weeks now. Most of what we’re doing has to be kept secret but the Universal Inbox will be there along with lots of improvements and cool new features.
Thanks for your patience and feedback.
